Education Specialist
Heather is passionate about creating environments where all learners thrive and has a knack for connecting with teens and children, especially those who think, learn, and thrive outside the “box.” As an elementary school teacher, Heather relished finding new ways to include and educate the diverse learners in her classroom. It was a natural progression into special education. She focused her master’s work on Dyslexia, spent time at Charles Armstrong learning Orton-Gillingham’s multisensory reading approach, and created her own multisensory systematic reading program for elementary school students with outstanding results. At the high school level, Heather focused on creating programs for students with ASD, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and other emotional challenges. She spent time as an Inclusion Specialist and mentored new special education teachers, all while working privately as an executive functioning coach. Her warmth, collaborative skills, and innovative thinking help families figure out the puzzle of their child’s unique profile and find the best support and environments for their children. After spending three years at Lamborn Advocacy, learning from the best, she has rolled all her learning and experience into Mosaic Minds Consulting.
Heather is a mom to three. She loves being outside, and you can find her gardening, hiking, and spending time with friends in the great outdoors. She also has a travel habit and is currently planning a return trip to Eastern Africa.
Education Specialist
Heather has a genuine love for supporting all young people and their families. She has vast experience in all levels of education and has a knack for quickly building rapport with young people. She is a true partner for the whole family system. For close to two decades, Heather worked as an education specialist, teaching all grade levels. She worked as a literacy interventionist and then turned her focus towards working with high school age teens with mental health and behavioral challenges. Behavior management was her strong suit, and mental health has always been a personal passion. In order to support these students, Heather had to find new and engaging ways to teach all academic subjects while supporting students with their executive functioning. Heather enjoys creating new lessons and finding ways to ignite passion for education in her students. Above all, she loves watching students gain confidence and self-love. Heather co-taught in the general education setting, served on the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and consulted for a company that supported neurodiverse homeschool students and their parents. Heather comes to Mosaic Minds in order to continue her work helping young people and their parents discover the skills and methods that will unlock their true potential.
Heather has a teenage daughter who competes in All Star Cheer and they travel the country for her competitions. In her free time, Heather enjoys gardening on her mountain property, hiking with her dogs, and visiting coastal areas in California and abroad.
Education Specialist
With almost twenty years of educational experience, Rachael works with students ages 3 to 22 to develop academic, social and life skills. As a former ABA intern, education specialist, and PEERS-certified coach, Rachael supports students through elementary school to their launch into the real world. The social cognition program she created at Palo Alto High School had outstanding results for her students, as her students with ASD consistently used intricate social and executive functioning at the high school level and beyond.
Rachael currently runs a work-experience program that brings 21st-century career-based skills to high school students. She supports students with resume building, developing interview skills, and navigating the work environment, along with teaching an advanced research project course that culminates in a community showcase. Rachael has deep community relationships with local businesses, vendors, and leaders, which she leverages into providing students with a safe, hands-on learning experience. This network of relationships and resources drives a yearly two-week vocational speaker series that allows high school students to learn from industry leaders.
Rachael is a mom to two wonderful children. Rachael is a huge sports fan; if she isn’t at a Giants game, she counts the minutes until March Madness starts. She is a mountain girl and spends as much time as possible in Twain Harte, swimming, hiking, and playing outdoors.
Rachael supports our Summer Work Experience Program, where students gain life, job, and social skills while having fun.
